The elections came off smoothly on March 4th and all seemed peaceful but tensions have risen sharply within the last few days as the losing candidate has filed legal papers with the court requesting an overturn of the results, claiming irregularities, etc.
As the Supreme Court considers the appeal, tempers are rising and inflammatory rhetoric is making the situation potentially explosive.
Five years ago there was serious post-election violence in which thousands were killed and hundreds of thousands were displaced from their homes as “Internally Displaced Refugees”. Many of these IDPs are still dwelling in tent villages, even now, five years later.
Therefore, we are praying extra hard for a peaceful outcome to this election. Please keep praying!
