Joel and Pauline Muli, and their four precious children,
are the first foreign missionaries to be sent out of Kenya! They arrived
in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in early May. When I visited their simple,
but happy home in Dar es Salaam recently, they were glowing with excitement
over what God is already doing through them to reach Tanzanians with
the Gospel. I was wonderfully surprised at how quickly they have made
the adjustment from a quiet rural life in Kenya to the big city of Dar
es Salaam.
Joel and Pauline were led to Christ by Henry Imana, the first missionary/evangelist
sent out of the Mt. Kenya Baptist Church back in the mid-eighties. They
felt the call to full time service, and worked for a time in the Maasai
region North of Mt. Kenya.
Then, when David Jones, a dear friend, and dedicated missionary to Tanzania
made the appeal for Kenyans to consider coming to the largely Islamic
country of Tanzania, Joel prayerfully considered the need. With genuine
tears of concern, he told me one day last year that God had indeed called
him to the sprawling city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Joel went on deputation — a totally new concept to our Kenyan
churches — and has raised most of his personal support from churches
here in Kenya. But, the Muli Family still need lots of prayer, and even
special work funds to enable them to have a significant impact for Christ
in Dar es Salaam.
